Dear Damen Robert,
The year is 2020, the world is burning down around us (or so
it feels like). You're 11 years old. You're experiencing anxiety for the first
time in your life, and how could you not? We have a president that is actively
destroying our country. We have a global pandemic that is nowhere near contained
in our state. We've beeen locked in the house in quarantine since February. You,
Rylee, and Kian have all started the new school year online. All day you're off
and on zoom calls, trying your damn best to keep your love of learning and new
information while doing it in this virtual environment. (You're kicking ass by
the way). You're turning into a teenager. You have a tiny baby mustache! O.o
STOP IT. Most of your spare time you spend locked in your room like a cave
troll, either watching YouTube or playing with Tayshawn & other rando's I tell
you not to play with. It's been too long since I've written to you, but I want
to start again. I think in my last post I mentioned you were trying out Tae Kwon
Do, well... you got your 1st degree black belt!! We've stopped going for many
reasons, but I am so proud of that accomplishment you made and I hope you are
too. Your sense of humor, quick wit, and dangerously handsome dimples are going
to be the death of me. Stop growing up so quickly.
I love you forever,
Mom

Dear Damen Robert,
How is it 2017? How are you 8?
You had a whole school year since I wrote you last. You went to Noah Webster, and while you learned a lot of math,, the rest of the school sucked. After summer you're going to Imagine with Ry, who's starting kindergarten.
You had your first Tae Kwon Do class yesterday, at the same place I uses to study. You loved it.
You've been a very good helper at home with the little kids and our new pupper Baxter.
I love you honey, and I'm so incredibly proud.
I love you forever,
Mom

Dear Damen Robert,
It's yo birthday!
Holy moly, seven years ago you tried to kill me upon your entrance to this world. I'm so incredibly thankful I got to meet you that day.

Dearest D Rob Bobarob,
You're handsome.
You got a whole week off school because of a nasty cold.
You went back today, and even if we went round and round about your attitude all week, I missed you. That's alright, next week is spring break. Then... Almost summer!
Ps. Tonight we made a secret handshake. It goes like: knuckles, knuckles, snap, slap, backslap, snap.
I love you forver baby boy,
Mommy

Dear Damen Robert,
Holy crap! You're such a big kid!
Last night when we were getting ready for bed, you decided your tooth was wiggly enough that it HAD to come out.
You were twisting and twisting it, trying to get it ready to yank when daddy got home. Well, he had just left work and had about half an hour before he got here. I told you to just pull it!
After basically going through an entire toilet paper roll, you did it!
You were so PUMPED.
We, of course, lost the tooth before it was even bed time. You weren't worried because the tooth fairy is flat in your mind, and can sneak in places to get teeth very easily.
When you woke up you were afraid she didn't leave any money, but that sneaky flat tooth fairy left it behind your bed. Five whole dollars!
She must have been impressed with how brave you were. True to form, it was spent on a giant bag of candy as soon as you were out of school.
Speaking of candy, you were pretty mad at me the other morning. You've got this plan in your head of a grand candy stand, 50 cents a piece. You'd arranged a whole big stack to take to school for your business.
Unfortunately I had to stamp out your entrepreneurial dream because I think that's against school rules.
Oh well. I want to make you a lemonade style stand that you can set up on the driveway when you're feeling like hosting a sale.
Maybe we can enlist Dad's help..
One last thing! You did your testing but we haven't gotten the results back yet. You feel pretty confident about it. "I got an A+, maybe even 100%!"
I love you forever baby boy,
Mommy.

Hey doodle head.
Guess what? CHICKEN BUTT.
In two weeks you're getting a big test for the advanced program at school. I know you'll do your best, and doing your best may break the test!
Your math brain is ridiculous. Dad taught you some algebra, and now he has regrets.
Yesterday you got a happy meal and scored a toy that is like K'Nex. I asked what you built and you said it's a SACRIFICER. We have to sacrifice mom!
Oh lord. Kids are so creepy :'D
Dad decided to mess with me and when I woke up it was on my pillow.
I love you so much D Rob. I'm so proud of you. Your empathy and kindness are so beyond your time. The world could learn a whole lot from you, mister.
I love you forever,
Mommy

Dear Damen Robert,
Almost two years ago I
birthed you, (sort of). Planning another birthday party seems sort of
ridiculous. You just turned one what seems like a month ago. Though you've been
the size of and have acted like a terrible two year old for the past six
months, it's just now starting to hit me.
Even though Thomas the train
is easily the most creepy and annoying show out there, we have chosen it as
your theme for the party. I'm going to have to tape it, the smile on your face
when you see the trains is the damn cutest thing I've ever seen. When ever I
hear the train that passes our house, I try to throw you in the bike as fast as
I can. We race down to the tracks and watch it go by. I love this. Thomas
doesn't quite add up to the real thing, but I hope he will work.
I love you,
Mom
(I found this letter on an old CD, I'm glad I didn't just throw it away. :])
